5th of May 2007

This week, hatice's homework was with a difference.. Half of her homework concentrated on Maths. All these while, i thought that all they would be learning in Ana okula was numbers from one to ten...recognising the numbers and writing them all...How wrong I was...

They have started on the simple numbers...of addition of numbers.. for example...

3 + 2 = ?

but of course it was with pictures... 3 cats + 2cats = ?

We were coming back home from carrefour today..in the car.... verbally halil asked hatice n baddin to add and substract simple numbers...and we were both impressed at how well hatice could answer! I mean halil n i r both maths flops...we were dreading that our kids would be the same too...there is hope for them as well...

This took me back to the discussion where merih complained that ilayda's math teacher is being too advance in the teaching esp for the first grade... hatice is in the pre school... if what hatice is learning now is a continuation of the system ilayda is learning in the first grade... then everything is quite normal then... i can understand why their math learning in the first grade is quite advanced.

But the problem is... unlike hatice..not everyone came from the pre school program of that school.. some may come from other kindergarden (yuva)... their systems may be different from the pre school system in this school...but then, since this school has a pre school system n naturally all or most of the pre school students will continue studying in the same school for the first grade and above..it is only normal for the school to continue from where the students had left off in the pre school ...

I am most happy with the pre school system in this school.. halil n i so far do not regret snding hatice to this pre school program. We see a lot of development in her eversince her entry here...

We thank all the teachers for their contributions in my daughter's development... and yes.. baddin will be coming soon hehehe

by the way.. hatice is still writing her numbers 5, 6 and 9 upside down hehehehe

i will try to add in the math homework once i am in the mood...:0)
